On December 13th, a breach related to the network monitoring tool SolarWinds Orion that appears to affect up to 18,000 of their active customers was disclosed. Adversaries managed to breach the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Department of Commerce, and persist for months in Office 365 monitoring email and exfiltrating data. Obsidian CTO Ben Johnson offered his opinions on the implications of this breach.
